7 Tips for Giving Plain Outfits An Edge

By 8:00 AM ,

Edgy chicks, this post is for you. I love a good edgy, rocker-chic outfit, but sometimes it can be hard to give an outfit edge when the pieces you're wearing are plain. Here are a few things you can add to a plain outfit to give it an edge.

1. Combat boots photo

Combat boots are a great addition to any rocker chick's wardrobe. The great thing about them is that you can find them almost anywhere, and they come in so many different styles. You can get a pair that's studded, super laced-up, tall, short, or plain. You can find a reasonably priced pair at stores like Charlotte Russe or Forever 21.

2. Switch up your hairstyle photo

Believe it or not, your hairstyle can actually make your outfit look totally different. Try a sleek ponytail with a pompadour, or try adding a braid to the side of your head to mimic the edgy, shaved side look that's becoming popular. The main thing to remember is, texture is everything. Don't settle for plain, stick-straight hair - add some random waves and use a texturizing spray or pomade.

3. Ear cuffs photo

Ear cuffs are one of my favorite additions to an edgy outfit. They look especially awesome when paired with a cool updo. I've found cool cuffs at Hot Topic and Charlotte Russe. You can find a cool cuff practically anywhere!

4. Add a leather jacket photo

This wouldn't be an edgy post without mention of a leather jacket, now would it? In my opinion, a leather jacket makes any outfit complete. Now that the weather is cooling off, it's a great time to either pull yours out of your closet or look into purchasing one. You can find cheap leather jackets lots of places, but I think investing in a good, quality jacket is the best thing you can do. It'll last for ages and you'll definitely get some good mileage out of it!

5. Add a vest photo

Denim vests have definitely made a comeback this year. It can add interest to any plain outfit and you can find these everywhere. You can even use a denim shirt and DIY your own vest! I suggest one with studs in a medium wash for an edgy look.

6. Makeup with darker colors photo

Just like your hairstyle, your makeup can add a lot to your look. Think darker colors and more intense eyes - winged liner and bold red or plum lips look awesome. Don't be afraid to wear a bold eye AND lip color, too; so many people like to balance out a look with darker eyes and lighter lips and vice versa, but it's totally okay to go dark all over! It'll add interest and sex appeal to your look.

7. Wear gold jewelry photo

I don't know if it's just me, but something about gold jewelry just works better with edgy looks. Nothing looks cooler than black and gold! Go for edgier jewelry, too - studded, leather, anything that looks rocker. It'll complete your edgy look!
