The Best Career Advice I've Ever Received

By 8:00 AM ,

I've noticed a lot of my viewers are around college-aged, so I figured now would be better than ever to write about life, careers, and figuring out what you want to do.

I've become fully aware of how scary it is once you graduate college and begin experiencing that existential crisis "What do I want to do with my life?!" question.

And I know plenty of people who aren't in school or who haven't been at all and are asking themselves the same thing, constantly worried that they've made the wrong choice by not going to school. Or feeling distressed because they didn't have the opportunity to go to college.

The main thing you need to remember is that YOU HAVE TIME. You're not on a set schedule for life, and not everyone's path to success is the same. Moreover, not everyone's definition of success is the same.

Whether you're 17 and trying to figure out what to do after high school or you're 35 wondering if you made the right choices (or anywhere in between), you most certainly can figure it out. You're not behind.

When I was around 19-20 and trying to figure out what major I wanted to declare in college, it was a huge deal for me. I felt that my decision would predict the rest of my life. I put my entire future in that one choice. (By the way, DON'T think like that)

I remember talking it over with a good friend then and she gave me the best advice I've ever received, and I still remind myself of it often,

What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail?

I'm sure you've heard it before, but have you ever really thought about it? When I was asked that question, my mind raced in a thousand different directions.

If you're feeling stuck, think of all the things you'd like to try. Feeling scared or not having the ability to do it? Pretend those don't exist. Pretend that no matter what, you would succeed at it. Would you do it? Would it make you happy?
