Beauty Tips for Taking the Best Photos

By 9:30 AM

I don't know about you, but my family always takes a ton of photos at every holiday event we have, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas! Since Thanksgiving is almost here and I'm sure most of you have plans with the family, I thought I'd share a few of my tips for making photographs turn out as great as possible! (these tips are also great for making selfies better, too!)

Use matte colors.

Matte colors are a much better option for photos that shimmery shades because oftentimes, shimmer reflects too much light and can make your face look overly shiny. Matte shades are also more flattering than shimmer in general and will accentuate your features in a more becoming way.

Contour and highlight.

If you don't always contour and highlight your face, you'll definitely want to do this before taking a lot of photos. When you take photos without contouring or highlighting at all, your face becomes flat and has no dimension. Contouring will create more dimension to the face and will darken shaded areas while highlighting lighter areas. Contour the hollows of your cheeks, sides of the nose, and your temples, then highlight down the middle of your nose, the tops of your cheekbones, and your cupid's bow for a flattering effect.

Pay attention to your brows.

Not only are brows the most important face-framing aspect of your face, but they tend to get lost easily in photos. Be sure to fill them in with a pencil or powder of your choice and make them a little fuller than usual. It also helps to create a longer eyebrow with a flick of your pencil, as the ends of the brows get lost in photos easily.

Use a little more blush that usual.

Similarly to what I said about contouring and highlighting, using a little extra blush than you usually would adds more color and dimension to your face. In photos, your skin tone tends to get washed out more often because of the lighting (or lack thereof). Don't overkill it, but apply a little more than you would on a day to day basis.
