Beauty Trends: 7 That Need to be Left Behind in 2015

By 9:30 AM

2014 was a year that introduced us to a massive number of new trends in the world of beauty; the good, bad, and ugly. There were lots of looks that I was pretty obsessed with (I'm still loving ombre hair, myself), but there were definitely a few I have some strong opinions about. Here are 7 beauty trends from last year that I think should be left where they started.

---   ---   ---   ---

1. Shaving one side of your head

source

Although I think this super trendy hairstyle looks pretty awesome on certain people, it most definitely doesn't work for everyone. And I'm sorry, but I just can't get past this - what happens when you decide to grow it out? You're going to deal with months of an awkward short patch of hair right by your face. Not worth it, IMO.

2. Overdrawn lips

source

I realize that having big lips is like getting breast implants these days, but I'm not crazy about it. Most people who I've seen try to mimic this look take it much too far. Since when did looking like a trout become sexy?

3. Ridiculously long extensions

source

I don't have a problem with girls wearing extensions, but I feel like it becomes an issue when your hair is so long that you worry you might strangle yourself in your sleep. It's overwhelming and only makes doing your hair more difficult and taxing.

4. Too-thick brows

source

Nice brows have definitely become one of the biggest trends of the year, and for good reason - brows frame your face and make a tremendous difference in your appearance. But some people are taking it too far, i.e. penciling them in with a super heavy hand, making them awkwardly thick at the beginning and tapering out so thin you can barely see them, or making them way longer than they need to be. Just a tip: if your brows are the first thing people notice about you, you might need to tone it down a little. People taking notice isn't always a good thing.

5. Witch nails

source

I know a lot of girls who are loving this trend, but I still don't understand it. When I see anyone with these types of nails, I feel like it's safe to assume that they're probably the type of person who would claw your eyes out in a second if you rubbed them the wrong way. I don't think that's the sort of impression you want to give off, is it?

6. Excessive nail art

source

And while we're on the subject of nails, can we just talk about how excessive some are with their nail decor these days? I'm all for sprucing up your nails, but I don't think putting charms on your nails is the best idea. Unless of course, you're an alien who has somehow mastered the art of completing everyday life functions with those claws.

7. Black lipstick

source\

Again, this is another mega-trend sweeping the world of beauty. However, I'm not feeling it. Black lipstick is one of those things that should be pulled out of your makeup arsenal once a year for Halloween, if you ask me. Any other time, and it's going to get really awkward when people run away screaming.

    1. Absolutely! Some people know how to pull off some of these looks, but not always! Thanks for reading!

  2. Girl, I gotta say I really dig the 1-side shaved head look (if it fits with the personality of the person-- like Demi Lavato when she had her head shaved, FLAWLESS!) and I love the Kylie Jenner lips. Other than those, I definitely agree with the rest, especially the the overly done nails look. How do you even function with tiny toys glued to your fingernails?v

    1. I agree with the shaved head thing, some girls pull it off like they were born for it! Demi Lovato looks fierce no matter what she does. Thanks for reading!

  3. Oh god those nails are definitely something that should be left behind! But I'm saying that from the perspective of someone who can't function with long nails never ones that are super pointy or with silly designs! I like the black lipstick though, I think it looks good on some people but I don't think you should over kill the look!

    1. Seriously! I can't handle having long nails, and I just think it's excessive. I think the black lips look good on certain people too, but I still think it's a little much for casual wearing that doesn't involve a costume :P
